Geksandiovaya or adipic acid (e355) - a food additive group of antioxidants.
From a physical point of view, the substance is a colorless crystals. Adipic acid is present in the list of additives approved by the European Union, however, at present its use is prohibited in many countries, since the acid is still under testing.
Production of adipic acid
E355 industrially advantageously obtained using the two-step oxidation of cyclohexane. Initially, a mixture of cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol, which is separated after the distillation. Cyclohexanone is subsequently used to produce caprolactam, and cyclohexanol are oxidized using 40-60% nitric acid and adipic acid occurs. Its yield with this method of preparation is about 95%.
There is another promising method for producing adipic acid by hydrocarbonylation butadiene. Today, the world produces about 2, 5 million tons of adipic acid.
The use of adipic acid
On the territory of those states where the food additive is permitted for use e355, it is used as an acidity regulator in the preparation of caramel sweets, drinks and other food products to maintain the desired pH level. Additive added to certain types of dry flavored desserts but strictly prescribed amount - up to 1 g / kg of finished product.
The gelled desserts permissible rate of adipic acid is not more than 6 g / kg and powdered beverage mixes may be 4 g / kg. E355 additive is often added in fillings for bakery and confectionery products.
Besides adipic acid food industry is widely used in the chemical industry. Thus, about 90% of the acid generated is used as a raw material for producing poligeksametilenadipinamida and its esters, and polyurethanes. Apply the acid to remove the material remaining after filling the joints between ceramic tiles, as well as in the production of the means intended for descaling.
