Mirena - intrauterine hormonal therapeutic system used as a means of contraception.

Mode of action of Mirena

 Hormonal system Mirena
 The active ingredients of Mirena - progestogen levonorgestrel and help to reduce the sensitivity of estrogen and progesterone receptors, as well as having a strong anti-proliferative and gestagenic action. Use of the drug leads to poor response of the uterus to the local presence of a foreign body therein, prevents penetration of sperm into the uterus, reduces the duration and amount of menses and dysmenorrhea.

Product form

Mirena is available as a therapeutic intrauterine system (spiral) 1 pc. in sterile blister packs in cardboard. The composition of one spiral Mirena includes 52 mg of levonorgestrel and 52 mg polydimethylsiloxane elastomer.

Indications Mirena

Spirals Mirena is used in the treatment of idiopathic menorrhagia, prevention of endometrial hyperplasia (with estrogen replacement therapy), and as a means of contraception.

How to use Mirena

In accordance with an instruction Mirena goes from its sterile packaging immediately prior to administration, preferably a physician who has experience with this system, and is introduced into the uterine cavity 5 years.

Women of childbearing age MIRENA placed in the uterine cavity within seven days after the onset of menstruation. Removal is done by pulling the spiral threads with forceps or using traction hook.

The spiral must be removed after five years, after which the installation of the new system is available immediately. Removal and installation of Mirena may be accompanied by bleeding and pain.

Contraindications Mirren

  • Pregnancy;

  • Malignant neoplasms of the uterus or cervix;

  • Septic abortion (in the last three months);
  • Abnormal uterine bleeding of unknown etiology;
  • Cervical dysplasia;
  • Acute liver disease and liver tumors;
  • Fibroids;
  • Progestagen-dependent tumors (breast cancer);
  • Hypersensitivity to the drug.

Mirena Side Effects
