The pharmacological action of Glivec
Glivec has antitumor activity and is most often used in the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia, as stops enzyme tyrosine kinase, is responsible for the growth, development and distribution of the cells. Gleevec interrupts pathological chain and contributes to the activation of a mechanism of self-destruction in cancer cells.
Gleevec is produced in the form:
Light yellow opaque capsules marked «NVR SH», containing 50 mg of imatinib, 10 pieces per pack;
Orange opaque capsules marked «NVR SI2», containing 100 mg of imatinib, 12 pieces per pack;
DY round tablets, coated tablets, labeled «NVR», containing 100 mg of Imatinib, 10 pieces in a package;
DY oval tablets, coated tablets, labeled "400", each containing 400 mg of Imatinib, 10 pieces in a package.
Also produces and analogues Glivec - imatinib, Genfatinib imatinib mesylate, Filahromin FS.
According to the instructions prescribed Glivec in the treatment of children and adults:
Chronic myeloid leukemia, newly diagnosed Philadelphia chromosome positive for;
Chronic myeloid leukemia in chronic phase or in the event of a failed previous treatment with interferon alpha.
In the treatment of adult Glivec on the instructions used in:
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia, newly diagnosed Philadelphia chromosome positive (in combination with chemotherapy);
Myelodysplastic or myeloproliferative diseases;
Relapsed or refractory acute lymphoblastic leukemia (as monotherapy);
Unresectable or metastatic malignant gastrointestinal stromal tumors;
Inoperable, recurrent or metastatic dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans;
Systemic mastocytosis with unknown c-Kit mutation status;
Adjuvant treatment of gastrointestinal stromal tumors.
Glivec is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation, as well as hypersensitivity to imatinib, and the age of 2 years. Women of childbearing age in accordance with the instructions recommended to use effective methods of contraception during therapy drug.
A drug like Glivec analogues, used with caution in severe liver failure and severe renal impairment.
Instructions Glivec: methods of use
Glivec of instructions taken during meals with a full glass of water. Doses of 400 and 600 mg per day is recommended to take a single step, and 800 mg daily dose should be divided into two equal receiving morning and evening.
Dose and duration of receiving Glivec depends on the disease and the doctor prescribed individually. Drug treatment is usually carried out as long as the clinical effect. At the first signs of disease progression receiving Glivec should be discontinued.
The initial dose of Glivec in cases of intolerance to the drug can be reduced by a physician, with lack of effectiveness - increased. Correction of the drug dosing regimen, as analogues of Glivec in old age is required.

Ulceration of the mucous membranes of the mouth, stomatitis, belching, melena, esophagitis, peptic ulcer, ascites, dysphagia, vomiting of blood, cheilitis, pancreatitis, hepatitis, hyperbilirubinemia and jaundice;
