Indications

The drug inhibits the reaction of tissue incompatibility, and delayed hypersensitivity.

Azathioprine is used for the following diseases:

  • Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura;
  • Myasthenia gravis;
  • rheumatoid arthritis;
  • Dermatomyositis;
  • Crohn's disease;
  • Psoriasis;
  • Autoimmune glomerulonephritis;
  • Pemphigus vulgaris;

Contraindications

Application Azathioprine has the following contraindications:

Dosage and Administration

The dosage regimen and duration of the course of treatment is determined by physician individually and depends on the general condition of the patient and the clinical course of the disease.

In transplantation for preventing rejection Azathioprine complex administered with cyclosporin and corticosteroids, as follows: 4 mg / kg per week for 2-3 hours prior to surgery and for 1-2 months thereafter further decreased dosage of 2-3 mg / kg per day. If there are signs of graft rejection, the daily dose was increased to 4 mg / kg.

In other diseases, the drug is prescribed to 1, 5-2, 0 mg / kg in 3-4 hours.

Azathioprine is rapidly absorbed from the stomach and intestines, the highest concentration in plasma is 1-2 hours after ingestion.

According to the instructions, Azathioprine may cause the following side effects:

  • Allergic reactions: arthralgia, myalgia, skin rash, drug fever;
  • From the digestive system: loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, abnormal liver function;
  • Patients after organ transplantation: ulcerative lesions of the stomach and duodenum, pancreatitis, gastrointestinal bleeding, perforation, and bowel necrosis;

Other side effects: panuveit, the development of secondary infections, acute renal failure, meningeal reaction, alopecia, interstitial pneumonitis.

Cautions

The first 2 months of azathioprine is necessary to monitor the performance of peripheral blood (every week), as well as to monitor liver function through regular liver function tests.

Abolition of the drug should be gradual.
