Description of passion fruit

 Passion fruit - plant of the genus Passiflora
 Passion fruit, also known as passion fruit, purple or Granadilla Passiflora edible refers to perennial plants from the genus Passionflower (Passiflora).

The composition of passion fruit

Of the trace elements contained in the fruit of Passiflora, most of the iron and zinc (1, 3, and 0 to 25 mg per 100 g, respectively) as well as in small quantities is iodine, manganese, copper, fluoride, and others.

100 g of passion fruit contains on average about 68 kcal.

Useful properties of passion fruit

Thanks to its balanced mineral composition and high content of potassium, doctors, nutritionists recommend eating passion fruit diseases of the liver, cardiovascular system and urinary tract. Also, thanks to low-calorie and high nutritional value, they are advised to use this fruit for weight loss.

Passion fruit has antipyretic, antimicrobial and laxative properties. Other useful properties of passion fruit is the ability to improve the digestive system, reduce cholesterol in the blood and rid the body of toxins, uric acid and other metabolic products.

Passion fruit pulp is a source of dietary fiber content in some grades of up to 27%. Fiber provides the excretion of cholesterol from the body, as well as protection of the mucous membrane of the colon.

Large amounts of vitamin C, contained in passion fruit, enhances immunity against influenza and other infectious diseases. Vitamin A and flavonoids are necessary to maintain good vision and nutrition of the skin and mucous membranes.

Passion fruit juice has a calming properties, it helps reduce fatigue and improve sleep quality. Some studies argue that the passion fruit juice inhibits the growth of cancer cells. The seeds of fruits are an important source of protein.

Oil Passion Fruit

Passion fruit flavor oil comprises oleic (20%), linoleic (80%), stearic (5%) and palmitic (15%) of the acid as well as saponins, amino acids, citric acid and ascorbic acid, pectin, alkaloids, starch and potassium.

Passion fruit oil on the skin leaves a thin film, which is on one hand prevents moisture loss and on the other - allow the skin to breathe. Antioxidant vitamins that make up the oil, prevents premature aging of the skin and protect it from the negative impact of external factors. Other useful properties of passion fruit oil include:

Oil passion fruit is used in cosmetics for making:

  • Massage oils;
  • Moisturizing and regenerating creams;
  • Creams, gels, masks for age, dry, oily and problem skin;
  • Shower gels;
  • Oils and creams for skin care after sun;
  • Shampoo and conditioner for all hair types;
  • Oils for split ends of hair;
  • Medicated creams for eczema, psoriasis and desquamation.

Application of passion fruit

In the Caribbean, for medicinal purposes are widely used all parts of the Passion:  Caloric passionfruit - 68 kcal per 100 g of the fruit

How to choose and store the fruits of passion

Passion fruit should choose well ripened and heavy for its size. The fruits with a slightly wrinkled skin, usually more sweet and delicious, and minor cuts and spots on their quality is not affected.

Store fruit should cool dark place, as a rule, no more than one week. In order to maintain long passion fruit, it is often sprinkled with a little sugar and frozen.

Contraindications

The use of passion fruit not recommended for people who have a tendency to allergic reactions, as well as with individual intolerance of the fruit.
