Psoriatic arthritis - Treatment and prognosis

Any specific method of treating inflammation of the joints do not exist, so all efforts aimed at physicians, to restore lost functions and remove the pain. For this purpose, the following groups of drugs:

  • nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, particularly ibuprofen. These drugs reduce joint stiffness, relieve pain, suppress the development of inflammation. However, they have a negative effect on the intestine, kidney, heart and stomach mucosa, however they should be taken with caution;
  • corticosteroids - used when psoriatic arthritis accompanied by strong, sharp pains in the joints;
  • basic drugs - reduce pain and inflammation, prevent the spread of the disease to other joints. Preparations of this group are very slow, so the effect of their use becomes visible after a few weeks of starting treatment;
  • immunosuppressive agents - partly suppress the immune system, but eliminate healthy tissue from the "attack" of our own body, which, in fact, occurs in psoriatic arthritis. The most well-known immunosuppressive drugs - tacrolimus and azathioprine is.

Surgery is the treatment of psoriatic arthritis almost never used. They resort to it only in cases where the disease continues to spread, despite medication, and threatens to go to healthy joints.
